Chongqing Medical University (CQMU), originally known as Chongqing Medical College, was founded in 1956. With nearly 60 years of development, Chongqing Medical University has become a major public medical university that is jointly administered and supported by the Ministry of Education of China (MOE China) and the Ministry of Health of China, as well as the Chongqing Municipal Government.
Global Accreditations:
Chongqing Medical University is one of the 44 universities in China that are approved by the Ministry of Education of China (MOE China) as offering Clinical Medicine (MBBS) in English. Additionally, it has been approved by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC), the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BM&DC), and NMC India.
Chongqing Medical University is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO), WDOMS, IMED, ECFMG, WFME, and WCAME. Students who graduated from Chongqing Medical University are eligible to apply for USMLE, UKMLE/PLAB, GMC, AMC, DHA, SMLE, and almost all the medical licensing certifications abroad.

The university has a comprehensive system of academic training, from Bachelor’s to Master’s, doctoral, and Postdoctoral in medicine, as well as other related fields. In 2013, CQMU ranked 6th among all medical universities in China. Regarding graduate education and discipline competitiveness, our university ranks 12th among all Chinese universities offering medical disciplines.
Campuses:
The Chongqing Medical University has two campuses, Yuanjiagang Campus and Jinyun Campus, covering an area of 2.02 km². The total assets of the university amount to 6.78 billion yuan, among which the equipment and facilities for teaching, research, and medical services are worth 983 million yuan. The library has a collection of 1.32 million books.
CQMU Campus Facilities:
The campus of Chongqing Medical University has a wide range of amenities for international students. On the campus, there are playgrounds, study areas, a library, and a gymnasium. A public kitchen, a Muslim canteen, and a laundry are available in the dormitory. Hostel accommodations are equipped with essential furnishings, air conditioning, private bathrooms, etc.
MBBS Program Overview:
Chongqing Medical University is one of the MOE-listed universities offering the Clinical Medicine MBBS in English. The MBBS Program (English Taught) is a six-year program that includes five years of medical education and the final year of an internship. International students will get the Clinical Medicine MBBS Degree upon completing the final degree exams.
MBBS (English teaching) Cost:
The Cost of the Medicine Program (MBBS) at Chongqing Medical University for international students is 34,800 RMB ($4850) per year, which includes the tuition and accommodation fees (two students sharing a room). The MBBS cost at Chongqing Medical University for Pakistani students is around 1.4 million PKR per year, including tuition and accommodation costs. This cost does not include meals and travel expenditures (airfare).
Scholarships:
Chongqing Medical University is currently offering a one-time freshman scholarship of 15,000 RMB/person for self-financed international undergraduates. Applicants must be excellent in academic performance, personal achievements, and comprehensive ability. Applicants may submit a personal statement and recommendation letters. The CQMU admission department will assess all the application documents and select the awardees.
Affiliated Hospitals:
There are six directly affiliated hospitals of Chongqing Medical University, which are entirely under the administration of the School, with more than 10,000 Beds. Besides, the university has more than 30 teaching hospitals and another 9 affiliated hospitals indirectly under its administration. The other three affiliated hospitals are currently under construction.
International Students:
Currently, more than 300 international students from different countries study medicine and other programs. International students are mainly from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Botswana, Liberia, Jamaica, Thailand, Lao PDR, Cambodia, and other African and Arabic countries.
Admission Requirements:
International students applying for the Medicine Program (MBBS) at Chongqing Medical University must meet the following admission criteria:
- A non-Chinese national holding a passport valid for at least one year.
- The applicant must have a minimum score of 65% to 70 % in senior high school, grade 12, WAEC, or GCE A-levels.
- The age requirement for the MBBS program is 18 to 25 years.
- Chongqing Medical University does not require an entrance examination.
- Students must be fluent in English. IELTS or TOEFL is not required.
- Applicant must be healthy both mentally and physically.
- The School can conduct the online interview, and the applicant must obtain 60 out of 100 marks in the English interview performance.
- The student must provide a financial guarantee or bank statement of a minimum of $6,000.
