The Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE China) recently released a list of English-taught MBBS medical schools. The list has been published annually since 2007, when “Provisions for Quality Control Standards on Undergraduate Medical Education in English for International Students in China” were introduced.
The MOE China List is carefully chosen and researched by the National Western Medical Education Expert Group, which conducts continuous assessments of medical schools in China to determine their eligibility for offering MBBS programs in English.
MOE Listed Medical Universities in China 2026-2027:
The Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE China) has released a revised list for 2026-2027, which includes 45 recognized medical schools authorized to teach Clinical Medicine (MBBS) in English.
Recent Modifications:
Compared to the previous list, the Ministry of Education of China (MOE China),
- Shihezi University and Ningxia Medical University increased their enrollment quota from 80 to 100.
- Shanghai Jiaotong University and Dali University were added to the list of 45 Medical Schools.
- North Sichuan Medical University has been removed from the most recent MOE China list.
Addition of MBBS Seats in 08 Universities:
Only eight medical universities from China’s Ministry of Education’s list of 45 institutions have been permitted to enroll over 100 MBBS students, as they have consistently maintained their educational standards.
Shihezi University and Ningxia Medical University are two of the most prestigious and prominent Medical Schools among the 45 MOE-listed universities. International students from many countries, including Pakistan, Jamaica, Cameroon, South Africa, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Tanzania, Botswana, Nigeria, Ghana, Mauritius, and Sudan, are pursuing Medicine (MBBS) in English at these schools.

MBBS Fee in MOE-Listed Universities:
The annual cost of Clinical Medicine (MBBS) at MOE-listed medical universities ranges from 35,000 RMB to 40,000 RMB ($5000 to $6000) Per year, including tuition and accommodation expenses. If we calculate in Pakistani rupees (PKR), it is 14 to 15 lakh per year including tuition and accommodation.
The MBBS Program (English Medium) consists of a Six-year Curriculum including a final year (6th year) of mandatory internship which will be performed in the affiliated hospital of the University in China. Students will get the Final degree of Bachelor in Clinical Medicine (MBBS) after the internship year.
Admission Requirements in MOE-Listed Universities:
International students intending to apply for the Medicine program at one of the 45 Medical Schools listed must have an overall 60% score on their Senior High School Diploma/HSSC/WAEC/GCE-A Levels. However, few MOE-listed universities require 70% marks in senior high school. Additionally, the majority of MOE-listed universities conduct interviews with candidates.
For the Indian and Bangladeshi students, Students must have an overall 75% Score and excellent grades in English and PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology). The School may request an English proficiency letter from students. Some MOE-listed universities (Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Tianjin Medical University, Tongji University) require the IELTS or TOEFL as a required qualification.

Teaching Medium:
- MOE-listed universities mention MBBS in English on admission letters; however, non-listed universities are not permitted to write English Medium MBBS. Only 45 universities listed by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in China are authorized to offer Clinical Medicine (MBBS) in English.
HSK Requirements:
- In the first year, students are not required to pass HSK-3 or HSK-4, as the teaching medium in MOE-listed universities is English. Students can submit their HSK-4 Certificate before getting the MBBS Degree.
Curriculum:
- Medical subjects are taught from day one in MOE-listed universities. The duration of the MBBS course is six years, which includes a one-year internship. In comparison to non-listed medical universities, the total credit hours for medical subjects are greater.

- The MBBS degree from one of the 45 universities listed by the Ministry of Education (MOE) is recognized worldwide. Graduates are eligible to apply for Medical Licensing Examinations abroad, such as the PMDC, USMLE, UKMLA/PLAB, GMC, AMC, and ECFMG.
