Ningbo University (NBU) is a key university in Zhejiang, China, that was set up in 1986 with donations from Sir Yue-Kong Pao, the shipping magnate in Hong Kong. It is one of the Double First-class universities in China, enjoying joint support from the provincial government of Zhejiang, the Ministry of Education (MOE), and Ningbo Municipality, as well as from the State Oceanic Administration and Ningbo Municipality.

Ningbo University is only about two hours away from the Capital city, Hangzhou.

Ranking:

Through the hard work of generations of people from the NBU community, Ningbo University has become a teaching- and research-oriented university and made its way to the Top 100 in China in comprehensive strength. It is also one of the Top 50 in graduate employment rates in China.

Prestigious University:

In the early years, Ningbo University owed a lot to five prestigious universities in China for their outstanding support: Zhejiang University, Fudan University, University of Science and Technology of China, Peking University, and former Hangzhou University. The employment rate of its graduating students ranks among the top in the province.

Campus:

The Ningbo University campus covers an area of 202 hectares, with a floor space of 974,600 square meters. The existing fixed assets total 2.22 billion yuan (or 322 million US dollars), and the instruments and equipment are worth 980 million yuan. According to Essential Science Indicators (ESI), 12 disciplines of NBU, including engineering, Clinical Medicine, chemistry, materials science, animal and plant science, agricultural science, environment and ecology, pharmacology and toxicology, biology and biochemistry, computer science, physics, and general social sciences, have ranked in the top 1% in the world.

There are 9 primary doctoral programs, 9 postdoctoral research stations, 31 primary master’s programs, 27 professional master’s programs, and 59 undergraduate programs.

The campus is home to 20,162 full-time undergraduates, 12,412 graduate students (including 213 international students), 1,126 international students (including 986 studying for academic degrees), and 7,287 students for continuing education.

Ningbo University has 3,157 faculty members, 2,149 of whom are teachers and researchers. Among the teaching and research staff, there are 525 professors, 698 associate professors, and 1711 doctoral degree holders.

Clinical Medicine (MBBS) Program:

Ningbo University School of Medicine is offering the Clinical Medicine (MBBS) Program in English. It is one of the top MOE-listed universities in China, approved by the Ministry of Education of China to teach a medicine program in English. The MBBS program covers six years, with five years of clinical medical education and a sixth year focused on the internship.

MBBS Cost (2025-2026):

Ningbo University has moderate Tuition fees, as compared to other MOE-listed medical universities in China. The tuition fee at Ningbo University is 38,000 RMB ($5,280) per year, while lodging expenses amount to 4,000 RMB ($550) per year, resulting in a total of 42,000 RMB ($5,850).

The MBBS Fee for Pakistani Students is approximately 17 Lakh PKR per year. This cost does not include the food or traveling expenses. Food costs at Ningbo University are 1000–2000 RMB per month, while traveling tickets are 5000–7000 RMB (one way), depending on the country.

International Students:

Currently, 2368 students from 104 countries and regions are registered at Ningbo University. Among all the international students, 77% are pursuing degree programs (including master’s or doctoral program students).

Admission Requirements:

International students applying to Ningbo University for Clinical Medicine (MBBS) must meet the following admission criteria:

  • Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of 70% marks in senior high school (WAEC/A-Levels/Grade 12).
  • There is no entrance test to apply.
  • The age limit to apply is 18-25.
  • Applicants must be fluent in English, and the school can conduct the online interview.
  • IELTS and TOEFL are not required for admission.
  • Applicants must be healthy both physically and mentally.
