Guangzhou Medical University (GMU), formerly known as Guangzhou Medical College, founded in 1958, is a medical institution that offers a full range of programs at undergraduate and graduate levels.

Guangzhou Medical University has two main campuses. The Yuexiu campus is located in the downtown Centre of Guangzhou City. Still, the 2nd campus, a medical campus, is very far from Guangzhou, and it takes about 2 hours to get there by Metro Bus.

Global Accreditations:

Guangzhou Medical University is Recognized by the WHO, FAIMER, WDOMS, WFME, and ECFMG, and Listed in MOE China for teaching the Clinical Medicine Program in English. It is also approved by NMC India, BMDC Bangladesh, and PMDC Pakistan.

Foreign graduates who receive a medical degree (MBBS) from Guangzhou Medical University are eligible to apply for the Medical licensing examinations of USMLE, ULMLA/PLAB, and GMC to practice medicine worldwide.

MOE Listed University:

In 2010, the Ministry of Education (MOE) of China listed Guangzhou Medical University (GMU) as one of 44 medical institutions that recruit international students for the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programs in the English language.

The clinical medicine discipline of GMU is ranked top 1% in the world for ESI rankings (Essential Science Indicators).

Faculty and Students:

Guangzhou Medical University has 23,300 students study full-time, including 10,000 undergraduates, 1,300 graduate students, and 12,000 continuing education students. Approximately 1,500 undergraduates and 550 postgraduates (master’s and doctors) enroll from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau each year.

International Students:

International students studying Medicine Program (MBBS) at Guangzhou Medical University are mainly from Bangladesh and India, and a few of them are from Pakistan and African countries Cameroon, Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, Sudan, Zambia, and Lesotho. Clinical Medicine (MBBS) Fee:

The Cost of a Medicine Program (MBBS) is 36,000 RMB/year ($5000) per year including tuition and accommodation costs. The approximate annual charge for Pakistani students pursuing an MBBS Program is 15 lakh PKR.

Food and travel expenses are not included in the Fee Package. The typical cost of Food for international students is around 1000-1200 RMB per month.

Guangzhou Medical University has 7 directly affiliated hospitals and 10 non-directly affiliated hospitals, specializing in respiratory diseases, neuropathy, cardiovascular diseases, gynecology and obstetrics, cancer, dental care, rehabilitation, minimally invasive surgery, primary care, and more.

MBBS Degree:

The Guangzhou Medical University offers a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree. The Clinical Medicine Program (English taught) lasts six years, consisting of a five-year medicine study and the last year (6th) of an internship in the affiliated hospital of Guangzhou Medical University.

MBBS Curriculum:

  • Chinese culture courses: General Introduction to China, Chinese Language, etc.
  • Biomedical courses: Systematic Anatomy, Regional Anatomy, Cell Biology, Histology & Embryology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Medical Genetics, Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Human Parasitology, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, etc.
    Behavioral science, humanities & social sciences, and medical ethics courses: Medical Psychology, Medical Ethics, etc.
  • Prevention medicine courses include Epidemiology, Medical Statistics, Basic Nutrition and Diet Therapy, Community Medicine, etc.
  • Clinical medicine courses: Diagnostics, Radiodiagnosis, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Anesthetics, Oncology, Stomatology, Neurology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Contagious Disease/ Infectious Disease, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, Dermatology and Venerology, Otolaryngology, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, etc.

Admission Requirements:

International Students applying for the Medicine program (MBBS) at Guangzhou Medical University must follow the Admission criteria.

  • Students must have a minimum of 70% grades in Senior High School/WAEC/A-Levels/HSSC.
  • Students between 18 and 25 must apply for the Medicine Program at Guangzhou Medical University.
  • Students must be healthy and fluent in the English language.

Guangzhou Medical University has No entrance test. As the teaching Medium for the Medicine Program (MBBS) is English, the School does not require the IELTS or TOEFL.

Deadline:

The deadline to apply for the Medicine Program (MBBS) at Guangzhou Medical University is the 30th of October every year (if seats are not filled). Acceptance will be prioritized for applicants who submit their applications in advance.
