Why Study Medicine?
Medical study is one of the most desirable professions worldwide. However, the opportunity to study MBBS is quite tedious for students and has a very competitive entry into government medical universities, with less than half of students being accepted. China provides the opportunity for students from Sri Lanka to achieve their pursuit of becoming future medical doctors. MBBS education in China is quite cheaper and more affordable than medical schools in Sri Lanka. That is what has led to more international students traveling to China to study. The quality of education in Chinese medical universities is one of the top-notch in Asia and the world.
SLMC Approved Medical Schools:
At present, Only 02 Chinese medical schools, which are approved by the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC), offer MBBS and BDS in the English medium. The Tuition fee of SLMC-approved medical schools is as high as that of other medical universities in China offering MBBS in English Medium.
Students are eligible to apply for the USMLE (America), PLAB, GMC England, AMC (Australia), and almost all the medical councils abroad. Sri Lankan students can apply to these universities for the Fall 2026-2027 intake.

The above-mentioned universities are top medical universities listed by MOE China for English Medium MBBS. Every university has limited MBBS seats, 80-100 only. Chinese universities have only a fall intake to accept international students from Sri Lanka. The deadline to apply is 30th July, or it depends on the availability of seats.
Students with good grades in GCE A/Level can apply to Chinese medical institutions. IELTS or TOEFL is not required for getting admission in China. The duration for MBBS in China is a total of 6 years, with the last year being a compulsory internship either in China or outside China.
Tuition Fee:
The tuition fee of SLMC recognized medical universities in China starts from 30,000 RMB/Year to 45,000 RMB/year. There are 2 semesters in 1 academic year. University charge the tuition fee yearly. The student needs to pay the Application and registration fee to get admission in SLMC-approved Chinese medical universities.
Scholarships:
Chinese medical universities are offering different types of performance-based scholarships for international students from Sri Lanka. By the end of every year, the university checks the performance of students academically and, according to their scholarship policy, offers scholarships to excellent students.
Teaching Staff & Faculty:
Medical study in China is based on modern problem-solving techniques and is well-structured. Chinese universities have qualified Chinese teachers; they are graduates from Europe, and some of them have a doctoral degree from the UK. Lessons are not limited to lecture halls, but also include clinical ward rounds and laboratory work in well-equipped laboratories.
Medical universities have splendid library facilities packed with both ancient and modern medical books, which are very illustrative and student-oriented. Affiliated hospitals of Chinese medical universities and colleges are well-organized and certified teaching hospitals with a minimum of 4000 patient beds.
Required Documents to apply for MBBS:
A student who wishes to study medicine or dental surgery in China should select a foreign degree program recognized by the Sri Lankan Medical Council. Make sure that you have the minimum G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) qualifications.

- Non-Criminal Report
- One photo with a white background.
- Financial statement from the bank (06 months) of the student or guardian.
