Sichuan University (四川大学) was founded in 1896, making it one of China’s oldest modern universities. It is located in Chengdu. Its current form is the result of two mergers, first in 1994 with Chengdu University of Science and Technology, and again in 2000 with the former West China University of Medical Sciences. After the foundation of the PRC, the name was changed to Sichuan University.

Sichuan University is accredited by the WHO (World Health Organization), WDOMS, WFME, and ECFMG. Foreign graduates who have finished their medical or dental education and possess a Medicine (MBBS) or Dentistry (BDS) degree are eligible to apply for the USMLE, PLAB, GMC, AMC, SMLE, and DHA.
Sichuan University is approved by the BM&DC (Bangladesh Medical Council), PM&DC (Pakistan Medical and Dental Council), and the National Medical Commission of India (NMC) as well.
MOE-Listed University:
Sichuan University is one of the 45 MOE-Listed Universities that provides a six-year Clinical Medicine (MBBS) program in English. There are no HSK-4 criteria for passing in the first year since the MBBS program in English has been approved by the Ministry of Education in China, and the school will clearly state “MBBS English Taught” on the admission letter.

Medicine (MBBS) Program and Cost 2026:
West China School of Medicine of Sichuan University is offering the Six-Year Medicine (MBBS) Program in English, which comprises five years of Medicine Study and a sixth year of Clinical Internship. The annual cost of the Medicine (MBBS) Program is 53,000 RMB ($7,500), including both tuition and accommodation. This price does not include airfares or food expenses.
Note: The cost of hostel accommodations ranges from 6,000 RMB to 14,400 RMB a year, depending on the rooms and dorms selected. The student must reserve their preferred dorm in advance.
Dentistry Program and Cost 2026:
Sichuan University launched the five-year Bachelor of Dentistry Program (BDS) in English for overseas students in 2025. The cost of the Dentistry program at Sichuan University is 44,000 RMB ($6250) per year, which includes tuition and accommodation.

International Students:
Sichuan University is hosting foreign students from over 40 countries. Foreign students are studying Medicine, Dentistry, Chinese language, and Pharmacy. Currently, the majority of foreign students are from Hong Kong, Macau, India, Bangladesh, Lesotho, Botswana, Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, and Indonesia, as well as other African and Arab countries.
Admission Requirements:
International students interested in studying Medicine or Stomatology at Sichuan University must meet the following entry requirements.
- Applicants must have a valid passport and be non-Chinese citizens.
- Applicant must have a minimum of 70% marks in their Senior High School/HSSC/WAEC/or A-Levels.
- The age requirement for the MBBS/BDS program is 18-25 years.
- Sichuan University does not require an entrance examination.
- The School can conduct the online interview on WeChat or Dingtalk.
- The student must provide a financial guarantee or bank statement with a minimum account balance of $5000.
