Southwest Medical University (SWMU), founded in 1951, is a full-time institution of higher learning in Sichuan Province. It is located in Luzhou city in Sichuan Province. It has two campuses—Zhongshan and Chengbei—covering more than 2000 mu. In 2005, Luzhou Medical College’s former name changed to Southwest Medical University.

Admission Requirements:

- Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens.
- Pakistani students must have a minimum of 50% in the MDCAT Examination.
- Applicants must have a minimum of 60% marks in senior high school (WAEC/A-Levels/Grade 12).
- There is no entrance test to apply.
- The age limit to apply is 18-30.

In 2009, Southwest Medical University became eligible to award degrees to international students. It began its undergraduate program in Clinical Medicine in 2004 and its postgraduate program in 2013. At present, more than 300 international students are studying Clinical Medicine (MBBS) on campus; they come from 12 countries, including the U.S.A., India, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Ghana.
The international students who have graduated from the university have subsequently taken the License Examination in their home countries.

The University provides annual Provincial government scholarships ranging from 10,000 RMB to 15,000 RMB, awarded based on students’ academic performance. The Southwest Medical School provides One Belt and One Road scholarships specifically for ASEAN and CIS countries. The cost of the MBBS (English Taught) program for Pakistani students is approximately 14 lakh PKR per year, which includes tuition and Hostel fees (2-4 Sharing rooms).
